Pre-hospital resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta

چکیده
Background Internal bleeding from pelvic fractures is difficult to stop with external compression and necessitates other resuscitation techniques such as endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA). This minimally invasive procedure stops the bleeding by inflating a balloon in the aorta, and has been used successfully in emergency departments and operations theaters. If REBOA also is feasible in the pre-hospital environment is unknown.

AIMS Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta has been a hot topic in trauma resuscitation during these last years. The aims of this systematic review are to analyze when, how, and where this technique is performed and to evaluate preliminary results. METHODS The literature search was performed on online databases in December 2016, without time limits. Studies citing endovasc...

Temporary occlusion of the aorta as an operative method to increase proximal or central perfusion to the heart and brain in the setting of shock is not new.1 Resuscitative aortic occlusion with a balloon was reported as early as the Korean War and has been described in more recent publications.2–5 Despite potential advantages over thoracotomy with aortic clamping, resuscitative endovascular bal...

Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) is a life-saving procedure used to control bleeding and maintain blood pressure temporarily in traumatic hemorrhagic shock. Uterine rupture and placenta accreta provoke uncontrollable massive hemorrhaging. REBOA may be useful for hemodynamic stabilization to prevent cardiac arrest in high-risk pregnancy.

Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) is an endovascular technique that allows for temporary occlusion of the aorta in patients with severe, life-threatening, trauma-induced noncompressible hemorrhage arising below the diaphragm. REBOA utilizes a transfemoral balloon catheter inserted in a retrograde fashion into the aorta to provide inflow control and support blood ...
